Federal reimbursement codes place novel dressing into new product category

  Derma Sciences Inc (Princeton, NJ), a medical device and pharmaceutical company focused on advanced wound care, recently announced that all five products in its novel line of Xtrasorb® HCS Dressings have received Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) codes. These codes (A6234 through A6238) were awarded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and allow healthcare providers to bill for the dressings effective immediately. Xtrasorb HCS makes use of a patented super absorbent polymer hydrocolloidal suspension within a hydrogel matrix.

Privately held company acquired for $150 million

  Stryker Corporation (Kalamazoo, MI) recently announced a definitive agreement to acquire the privately held Gaymar Industries (Orchard Park, NY). Under the terms of the agreement, Stryker will acquire Gaymar Industries for approximately $150 million in an all-cash transaction. Gaymar specializes in support surface and pressure ulcer management solutions as well as the temperature management segment of the healthcare industry, with an attractive portfolio of capital and disposable products in both the US and international markets.

Contract initiated with one of the nation’s largest shared services organizations

  Innovative Therapies Inc ([ITI] Gaithersburg, MD) recently announced the signing of a negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) contract with the Mid-Atlantic Group Network of Shared Services (MAGNET), which encompasses both rental and sales of ITI’s proprietary technology. MAGNET chooses its providers based on their ability to deliver proven, innovative technology to a cost-aware healthcare industry. MAGNET is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced shared services organizations.

Company licenses technology based dressings for distribution in India



  Quick-Med Technologies Inc (Gainesville, FL) recently signed a Patent and Technology License Agreement with Viridis BioPharma Pvt Ltd. Under terms of the agreement, Viridis will manufacture, market, and sell gauze wound dressings in India that incorporate Quick-Med's proprietary Nimbus® antimicrobial technology.

Study reports 90% success rate for single-incision sling used for urinary incontinence

  American Medical Systems®([AMS] Minnetonka, MN), a leading provider of world-class devices and therapies for both male and female pelvic health, recently announced results of a prospective, multi-center study on their market leading MiniArc®Single-Incision Sling System for female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The study concludes that the system’s efficacy rates for negative cough stress test (CST) and 1hr Pad Weight Test (PWT) at 12 months were 90.6% and 84.5% respectively.

Medical group will distribute novel RTD wound dressing

  Darg Medical Group LLC (Iron Station, NC) and Global Products Technology LLC (Holly Springs, NC) announced the signing of a multiyear distribution agreement for RTDwound care dressings. RTD wound dressing is a wound care dressing for a broad spectrum of both acute and chronic wounds. The dressing was developed by George Walter Medical and is the only complete category crossover wound care dressing available commercially. RTD uses a patented process to produce and manufacture the dressings, which have broad applicability on various wounds.

TheraSkin® is Awarded the APMA Seal of Approval

  Soluble Systems LLC (Newport News, VA) announced that American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) has awarded its Seal of Approval for TheraSkin®. TheraSkin is a cryo-preserved human skin allograft with both epidermis and dermis layers. When applied to a wound that is not healing properly, the skin allograft can jumpstart the healing process.

Company presents second generation device for treating wounds

  NanoVibronix (Nesher, Israel), a medical device company which develops innovative therapeutic ultrasound applications, announced that following its initial success with the first generation PainShielddevice for pain therapy, especially for the severe pain associated with Trigeminal Neuralgia, NanoVibronix recently launched its second generation PainShield with additional features for the therapy of chronic pain and wounds.
